Blessed Giovanna de Portugal
Blessed Joan of Portugal (born February 6, 1452 AD in Lisbon, Portugal; died May 12, 1490 AD in Aveiro, Portugal) was a Portuguese Catholic princess, daughter of King Afonso V of Portugal and sister of King John II, who renounced the Portuguese royal throne to enter the Dominican convent of Jesus in Aveiro. She was beatified by Pope Clement XI on May 4, 1693. Her feast day is May 12.

Biography
Joan of Portugal was born February 6, 1452, in Lisbon, the daughter of King Afonso V of Portugal and sister of the future King John II. Despite sustained royal pressure to marry (she was proposed as bride to several European princes), she consistently refused, seeking the religious life.
In 1472 she was permitted to enter the Dominican Convent of Jesus in Aveiro, though she could not take permanent vows until 1485, when her family finally accepted her vocation.
She lived a life of deep penance, prayer, and mystical contemplation at Aveiro. She died May 12, 1490, in Aveiro.
She was beatified by Pope Clement XI on May 4, 1693. Her feast day is May 12.
