Blessed Gertrude of Altenberg
Blessed Gertrude of Altenberg (born c. 1227 AD in Altenberg, Hesse, Germany; died August 13, 1297 AD in Altenberg, Hesse, Germany) was a German Catholic Premonstratensian prioress and mystical writer, daughter of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) and Landgrave Ludwig IV of Thuringia. She entered religious life at the Premonstratensian convent of Altenberg and served as its prioress. She was beatified and her feast day is August 13.

Biography
Gertrude of Altenberg was born c. 1227, the daughter of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) and Landgrave Ludwig IV of Thuringia. After her mother's early death and her father's death on Crusade (1227), she was placed in the Premonstratensian convent of Altenberg in Hesse.
She entered religious life there and eventually became its prioress. She was renowned for her holiness, mystical prayer, and contemplative life — continuing in her religious vocation the remarkable sanctity of her mother.
She died August 13, 1297, at Altenberg. Her feast day is August 13.
