Blessed George Douglas
Blessed George Douglas (born c. 1550 AD in Scotland; died September 9, 1587 AD in York, England) was a Scottish Catholic priest martyred in York for exercising the Catholic priesthood under the Elizabethan penal laws. He is venerated among the English and Scottish Martyrs beatified by Pope Leo XIII. His feast day is September 9.

Biography
George Douglas was born c. 1550 in Scotland, during the turbulent years that preceded the Protestant Reformation in Scotland (1560). He was ordained a Catholic priest abroad on the Continent.
He ministered to Catholics in England under the Elizabethan penal laws, which made it high treason for an ordained Catholic priest to be present in England. He was arrested, tried, and executed — hanged, drawn, and quartered — in York on September 9, 1587, just months after the execution of Mary Queen of Scots.
He is venerated among the English and Scottish Martyrs beatified by Pope Leo XIII. His feast day is September 9.
