Blessed Florentino Asensio Barroso
Blessed Florentino Asensio Barroso (born October 26, 1877 AD in Mucientes, Valladolid, Castile and León, Spain; died August 9, 1936 AD in Barbastro, Aragon, Spain) was a Spanish Catholic bishop of Barbastro (Aragon) who was arrested by Republican militia forces at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War and martyred. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 4, 1998. His feast day is August 9.

Biography
Florentino Asensio Barroso was born October 26, 1877, in Mucientes, Valladolid Province, Castile and León, Spain. He was ordained a priest and rose to become Bishop of Barbastro in Aragon.
When the Spanish Civil War broke out in July 1936, Barbastro found itself in the Republican zone. The anti-clerical violence of August 1936 devastated the Barbastro diocese — most notoriously in the massacre of the 51 Claretian priests and seminarians of Barbastro (beatified separately in 1992 and 1997).
Bishop Asensio was arrested by Republican militia. He was executed by shooting on August 9, 1936.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 4, 1998. His feast day is August 9.
