Blessed Edward Stransham (born c. 1554 AD in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England; died January 21, 1586 AD in Tyburn, London, England) was an English Catholic martyr priest who was executed at Tyburn for the crime of being a Catholic priest ordained abroad who had returned to minister in England. He was ordained at the English College in Reims. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, as one of the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is January 21.

Biography

Edward Stransham was born around 1554 in Oxford. He studied at the English College at Reims and was ordained a Catholic priest. He then returned to England on the English Mission to minister to the recusant Catholic community.

He was arrested and tried for the statutory crime of returning to England as an ordained Catholic priest. He was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn, London, on January 21, 1586.

He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, as one of the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is January 21.
