Blessed Edouard Shelley
Blessed Edward Shelley (born c. 1540 AD in Warminghurst, West Sussex, England; died August 30, 1588 AD in Chichester, West Sussex, England) was an English Catholic layman and martyr who was executed at Chichester for harboring Catholic priests in his home. A member of the Shelley family — one of the great recusant Catholic families of Sussex — he was convicted of the felony of knowingly harbouring a seminary priest. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, as one of the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is August 30.

Biography
Edward Shelley was born around 1540 in Warminghurst, West Sussex, into one of the great recusant Catholic families of Sussex. He maintained his Catholic faith and his home as a place of refuge for Catholic priests ministering to the underground recusant community of Sussex.
He was arrested for the statutory felony of knowingly harboring a seminary priest, tried, and condemned. He was hanged at Chichester on August 30, 1588.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, as one of the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is August 30.
