Blessed Edouard Poppe
Blessed Edouard Poppe (born December 18, 1890 AD in Temse, East Flanders, Belgium; died June 10, 1924 AD in Moerzeke, East Flanders, Belgium) was a Belgian Catholic priest of the Diocese of Ghent who was renowned for his deep Eucharistic piety, his apostolate among workers, and his mystical prayer. Ordained in 1916 and mortally weakened by the privations of World War I, he spent the last years of his short life as a spiritual director and retreat master, writing and praying with extraordinary intensity despite severe illness. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on June 3, 1999. His feast day is June 10.

Biography
Edouard Poppe was born December 18, 1890, in Temse in East Flanders, Belgium, into a large working-class baker's family. He was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Ghent in 1916, in the midst of World War I, which had devastated Belgium.
He was severely weakened by illness — a heart condition aggravated by wartime privations — but devoted the remaining years of his short life to Eucharistic piety, spiritual direction, retreats for workers, and writing.
He died June 10, 1924, at Moerzeke in East Flanders, at 33 years of age — the age of Christ at the Crucifixion.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on June 3, 1999, in Brussels. His feast day is June 10.
