Blessed Dominic of the Holy Rosary (died September 12, 1622 AD in Nagasaki, Japan) was a Spanish Dominican friar and martyr who was killed during the Japanese persecution of Christians under the Tokugawa shogunate. He was among the group of martyrs executed in Nagasaki in September 1622, two days after the Great Martyrdom of September 10. He was beatified by Pope Urban VIII. His feast day is September 12.

Biography

Dominic of the Holy Rosary was a Spanish Dominican friar who came to Japan as a missionary via the Philippines. He worked in the Japanese mission during the years of the great Tokugawa persecution of Christians.

On September 12, 1622 — two days after the Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki — he was executed at Nagasaki for his faith and his missionary work. He refused to apostatize.

He was beatified by Pope Urban VIII with the other martyrs of Japan. His feast day is September 12.
