Blessed Dominic Nifaki (died September 10, 1622 AD in Nagasaki, Japan) was a Japanese Catholic layman and martyr who was killed during the Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki on September 10, 1622. He was among the 55 Catholics — priests, brothers, and laypeople — executed by the Tokugawa shogunate on that single day as part of the systematic extermination of Christianity from Japan. He was beatified by Pope Urban VIII. His feast day is September 10.

Biography

Dominic Nifaki was a Japanese Catholic layman of the Kirishitan (Christian) community in 17th-century Nagasaki. On September 10, 1622, he was executed as part of the Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki — a mass execution of 55 Catholics by the Tokugawa shogunate. He refused to apostatize and was killed.

He was beatified by Pope Urban VIII with the other martyrs of the Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki. His feast day is September 10.
