Biography
Daniel of Villiers was a Cistercian monk at Villers Abbey in Brabant, in what is now Belgium. Villers Abbey, founded by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux in 1146, became one of the greatest centers of Cistercian mysticism in the medieval Low Countries.
Daniel lived at Villers during the 13th century, its golden age, when the community was at the height of its spiritual achievement. He is venerated for his contemplative life and mystical gifts.
He died around February 9, 1234, at Villers Abbey. His feast day is February 9.
