Blessed Daniel Karmasz
Blessed Daniel Karmasz (born 1904 AD in Strilky, Galicia, Ukraine; died June 17, 1944 AD in Strilky, Galicia, Ukraine) was a Ukrainian Greek-Catholic layman and martyr who was killed during World War II by German occupiers. He is venerated as one of the 27 Ukrainian Greek-Catholic martyrs beatified by Pope John Paul II in Lviv on June 27, 2001. His feast day is June 27 (shared feast of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Martyrs).

Biography
Daniel Karmasz was born in 1904 in Strilky, a village in the Galicia region of what is now western Ukraine, then part of the Austrian Empire. He was a layman of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (the Eastern Catholic Church of Byzantine rite in union with Rome).
He was killed by German occupiers on June 17, 1944, in his home village of Strilky, for his faith and his refusal to apostatize. His martyrdom came in the final months of the Nazi occupation of Galicia, before the Soviet reoccupation of the region.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on June 27, 2001, in Lviv, Ukraine, as one of the 27 Ukrainian Greek-Catholic martyrs of the 20th century — a group including bishops, priests, monks, and laypeople who died under Nazi or Soviet persecution for their faith. His feast day is June 27.
