Blessed Clement Sheptytsky
Blessed Clement Sheptytsky (born May 17, 1869 AD in Prylbychi, Galicia, Austria-Hungary (now Ukraine); died May 1, 1951 AD in Vladimir, Russia) was a Ukrainian Greek-Catholic monk, priest, and Superior General of the Studite Monks — the younger brother of the great Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky (1865–1944) of Lviv. Born into the aristocratic Polish-Ukrainian Szeptycki family, he converted from the Roman Catholic to the Greek-Catholic rite (the Ukrainian Byzantine rite in union with Rome) alongside his brother Andrey, entered the Studite (Byzantine Benedictine) monastic order, was ordained a priest, and eventually became Archimandrite (Superior General) of the Studite monks at Univ Lavra monastery. He was arrested by Soviet forces in 1947, convicted in a Soviet show trial, and died in a Soviet prison in Vladimir, Russia, on May 1, 1951. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Lviv, Ukraine, on June 27, 2001, together with 25 other Ukrainian Greek-Catholic martyrs. His feast day is June 27.

Biography
Kazimir Maria Sheptytsky was born May 17, 1869, in Prylbychi, Galicia (now Ukraine), into the aristocratic Szeptycki/Sheptytsky family. He converted from the Latin to the Greek-Catholic rite alongside his older brother Ivan (later Metropolitan Andrey), taking the name Clement. He entered the Byzantine Studite monastic order and was ordained a priest.
He rose to become Archimandrite (Superior General) of the Studite Monks at Univ Lavra monastery near Lviv, working closely with his brother Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky in the renewal of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
After the Soviet annexation of western Ukraine following World War II, the Soviet regime launched a systematic suppression of the Greek-Catholic Church. Clement was arrested in 1947, tried in a Soviet show trial, and imprisoned. He died in the Vladimir Central Prison on May 1, 1951, at 81 years of age — a martyr of the Soviet anti-Catholic persecution.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Lviv, Ukraine, on June 27, 2001, together with 25 other Ukrainian Greek-Catholic martyrs. His feast day is June 27.
