Blessed Christopher Robinson
Blessed Christopher Robinson (born c. 1555 AD in Woodside, Cumberland, England; died August 19, 1598 AD in Carlisle, Cumberland, England) was an English Catholic priest who was martyred during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I for the crime of exercising his priestly ministry in England. A secular priest ordained on the Continent, he secretly returned to minister to the underground Catholic community in Cumberland (now Cumbria) in the far northwest of England. He was arrested, tried for being an ordained Catholic priest in England, and executed in Carlisle on August 19, 1598. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, as one of the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is August 19.

Christopher Robinson was born around 1555 in Woodside, Cumberland, in the far northwest of England. He was ordained a Catholic priest on the Continent and secretly returned to England to minister to the underground Catholic community of his home county.
He served the Catholics of Cumberland — one of the remotest regions of England — for years before being arrested. He was tried under the Elizabethan statute making it high treason for an ordained Catholic priest to be present in England. He was convicted and executed — hanged, drawn and quartered — in Carlisle on August 19, 1598, at approximately 43 years of age.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987, as one of the 85 Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is August 19.
