Blessed Christian O Conarchy
Blessed Christian O'Conarchy (Irish: Gilla Críst Ua Connairche; also spelled O'Conairche, O'Conarchy; born c. 1100 AD in Ireland; died March 18, 1186 AD at Mellifont Abbey, County Louth, Ireland) was an Irish Cistercian monk and the first Bishop of Lismore. He was instrumental in introducing the Cistercian Order to Ireland, traveling to France to recruit Saint Malachy of Armagh's first Cistercian monks from Clairvaux, and later served as the first abbot of Mellifont Abbey — the first Cistercian monastery in Ireland (founded 1142). He resigned his bishopric late in life to return to the monastic life at Mellifont, where he died. His feast day is March 18.

Biography
Christian O'Conarchy (Gilla Críst Ua Connairche) was born around 1100 in Ireland. He became a companion of Saint Malachy of Armagh and accompanied him to France, where he remained at Clairvaux Abbey to receive his Cistercian formation under Saint Bernard.
When Saint Malachy sought monks to found the first Cistercian monastery in Ireland, Christian O'Conarchy led the founding community. Mellifont Abbey was established in 1142 in County Louth, with Christian as its first abbot. Within decades, Mellifont became the mother-house of the entire Irish Cistercian network.
He was later appointed the first Bishop of Lismore in Munster, serving the newly reorganized Irish Church. In his old age, he resigned the bishopric and returned to Mellifont to live and die as a simple monk.
He died March 18, 1186, at Mellifont Abbey, at approximately 86 years of age. His feast day is March 18.
