Blessed Charles Steeb
Blessed Karl Steeb (born December 18, 1773 AD in Tübingen, Württemberg, Germany; died December 15, 1856 AD in Verona, Veneto, Italy) was a German-born Italian priest who founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy (Italian: Suore della Misericordia) in Verona in 1840, providing care for the sick poor in their homes. Born a Lutheran, he converted to Catholicism as a young man in Italy, was ordained a priest, and devoted his life to the sick and the poor of Verona. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 18, 1998. His feast day is December 15.

Biography
Karl Steeb was born December 18, 1773, in Tübingen, Württemberg, into a Lutheran family. He studied and eventually traveled to Italy. In Verona, he encountered the Catholic faith and converted, renouncing his Lutheran heritage entirely.
He was ordained a Catholic priest in Verona and devoted his entire priestly life to the sick poor of the city. In 1840, together with Blessed Vincenza Poloni, he founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy (Suore della Misericordia) — a congregation of women religious devoted to visiting and nursing the sick poor in their own homes.
He guided the congregation and continued his apostolate until his death on December 15, 1856, at the age of 82.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 18, 1998. His feast day is December 15.
