Blessed Catherine du Verdier de la Sorinière
Blessed Catherine du Verdier de la Sorinière (died 1794 AD in Avrillé, near Angers, France) was a French Catholic laywoman who was put to death during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution and is honored among the Martyrs of Angers. She was among the priests, religious, and lay faithful of the region of Anjou who were condemned and executed for their loyalty to the Catholic Church. Her feast day is February 1.
Catherine du Verdier de la Sorinière refused to abandon her faith during the revolutionary persecution in western France. Arrested and condemned, she was executed near Angers, most of the lay martyrs of the group being shot at Avrillé. She was beatified in 1984.

Biography
Catherine du Verdier de la Sorinière was a laywoman of Anjou, in western France, at the time of the French Revolution. When the revolutionary government intensified its persecution of the Catholic Church—demanding oaths of the clergy and punishing those who remained loyal to Rome—the region of Angers became one of the centers of resistance and of martyrdom.
During the Reign of Terror in 1793–1794, many priests, religious, and lay men and women of Anjou were arrested and brought before revolutionary tribunals. Catherine du Verdier de la Sorinière was among those condemned for their Catholic faith. Like many of the lay martyrs of Angers, she was executed near the city, at Avrillé, where mass shootings of the condemned took place.
She was beatified on February 19, 1984, by Pope John Paul II as one of the ninety-nine Martyrs of Angers, whose collective feast is kept on February 1.
