Blessed Bronislaw Markiewicz
Blessed Bronisław Markiewicz (born July 13, 1842 AD in Pruchnik, Galicia, Poland; died January 29, 1912 AD in Miejsca Piastowe, Galicia, Poland (now Subcarpathian Voivodeship)) was a Polish Catholic priest, the founder of the Congregation of Saint Michael the Archangel (Michalites), and a dedicated apostle of youth — especially of orphaned, neglected, and abandoned boys in Galicia. He was a disciple of Saint John Bosco (whom he knew personally in Turin), adapting the Salesian system of education to the specific needs of Polish youth under Austrian Galician rule. He founded a large charitable institution at Miejsca Piastowe (formerly Błażowa or Miejsce Piastowe) in the Subcarpathian region that served thousands of boys. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Rome on June 19, 2005. His feast day is January 30.

Biography
Bronisław Markiewicz was born July 13, 1842, at Pruchnik in Austrian Galicia (now southeastern Poland). He was ordained a Catholic priest and later went to Turin, Italy, where from 1885 to 1892 he lived and worked directly under Saint John Bosco (Don Bosco), learning the Salesian "Preventive System" of youth education.
Returning to Galicia, he founded a large charitable institution at Miejsca Piastowe in 1897 for orphaned, abandoned, and neglected boys — adapting Don Bosco's system to Polish Catholic conditions. He established a periodical, Powściągliwość i Praca (Temperance and Work), which became the organ of his movement.
In 1921 (posthumously) his institution was constituted as the Congregation of Saint Michael the Archangel (Michalites).
He died January 29, 1912, at Miejsca Piastowe. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on June 19, 2005. His feast day is January 30.
