Blessed Augustine Ambrose Chevreux
Blessed Dom Augustin-Ambroise Chevreux, O.S.B. (born 1728 AD in France; died September 2, 1792 AD in Paris, France) was a French Benedictine monk who served as the last Superior General of the Maurist Congregation (Congregation of Saint-Maur) — the great French Benedictine reform congregation — and was martyred during the September Massacres of the French Revolution. He was one of the 191 clerics killed at the Church of the Carmelites (Carmes Déchaussés) in Paris on September 2–3, 1792, when Revolutionary mobs attacked the prison where refractory clergy had been held. He was beatified by Pope Pius XI on October 17, 1926, as one of the Blessed Martyrs of September 1792. His feast day is September 2.

Biography
Augustin-Ambroise Chevreux was a French Benedictine monk who became the last Superior General of the Congregation of Saint-Maur (the Maurists), the great French Benedictine reform congregation that produced Mabillon, Montfaucon, and many of the greatest Catholic scholars of the 17th-18th centuries.
When the French Revolution suppressed religious orders and required all clergy to take the Civil Constitution of the Clergy oath (which Pope Pius VI had condemned), Chevreux refused. He was arrested and imprisoned in the Church of the Carmelites (Carmes Déchaussés) in Paris along with other refractory clergy.
On September 2, 1792, Revolutionary mobs entered the Carmelite prison and massacred 191 of the clergy imprisoned there — including Chevreux, Archbishop Jean-Marie du Lau of Arles, and many others. The Congregation of Saint-Maur — founded in 1618, suppressed in 1792 — ended with Chevreux's martyrdom.
He was beatified by Pope Pius XI on October 17, 1926, as one of the Blessed Martyrs of September 1792.
