Blessed Apollinaris Morel
Blessed Apollinaris Morel, O.F.M. Cap. (born 1739 AD in Dôle, Franche-Comté, France; died October 24, 1794 AD in Chalon-sur-Saône, Burgundy, France) was a French Franciscan Capuchin friar martyred during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution. He was killed for refusing to take the Constitutional Oath required of clergy by the Revolutionary government, maintaining his fidelity to Rome and the Holy See. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 1, 1987, as one of the Martyrs of the French Revolution. His feast day is October 24.

Biography
Apollinaris Morel was born in 1739 in Dôle in Franche-Comté and became a Franciscan Capuchin friar. When the French Revolution broke out, the Revolutionary government required all French clergy to swear the Civil Constitution of the Clergy oath, which Pope Pius VI had condemned as incompatible with the Catholic faith.
He refused the oath, becoming one of the prêtres réfractaires (refractory priests) who faced persecution for their fidelity to Rome. He was arrested and killed on October 24, 1794, at Chalon-sur-Saône in Burgundy — in the final days of the Reign of Terror.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 1, 1987, as one of the Martyrs of the French Revolution.
