Blessed Antony of Pavoni
Blessed Antony of Pavoni, O.P. (born c. 1326 AD in Savigliano, Piedmont, Italy; died April 9, 1374 AD in Bricherasio, Piedmont, Italy) was an Italian Dominican friar, inquisitor, and martyr. As Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of Lombardy and a papal inquisitor in Piedmont, he worked to combat the Waldensian heresy in the Piedmontese valleys. He was attacked and killed by his opponents at Bricherasio near Pinerolo while vested for Mass on April 9, 1374 — the Saturday before Palm Sunday. He was beatified by Pope Gregory XVI in 1856. His feast day is April 9.

Biography
Antony of Pavoni was born around 1326 in Savigliano in Piedmont. He joined the Dominican Order and became a friar preacher in the Province of Lombardy. He eventually served as Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of Lombardy.
As a papal inquisitor in Piedmont, he worked to address the Waldensian heresy in the Alpine valleys west of Turin. On April 9, 1374 — the Saturday before Palm Sunday — he was killed at Bricherasio near Pinerolo, shortly after celebrating Mass, by opponents of his inquisitorial work.
His cult was confirmed and he was beatified by Pope Gregory XVI, confirmed by Pope Pius IX on April 1, 1856.
