Blessed Antonio Rosmini Serbati
Blessed Antonio Rosmini-Serbati (born March 24, 1797 AD in Rovereto, Trentino, Italy; died July 1, 1855 AD in Stresa, Piedmont, Italy) was an Italian philosopher, theologian, priest, and founder of the Rosminians (Institute of Charity / Istituto della Carità). One of the most profound Catholic thinkers of the 19th century, his philosophical system — attempting to reconcile the Kantian critique of reason with Catholic metaphysics — was controversial in his lifetime and portions were censured by the Holy Office in 1888, though this censure was lifted in 2001. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on November 18, 2007. His feast day is July 1.

Biography
Antonio Rosmini-Serbati was born March 24, 1797, in Rovereto in Trentino (then part of the Austrian Empire) into a noble family. He received an excellent philosophical and theological education and became one of the most prominent Catholic thinkers of the 19th century.
In 1828 he founded the Institute of Charity (Rosminians) at Domodossola in Piedmont, a congregation approved by Pope Gregory XVI in 1838. He produced major philosophical works — including his Nuovo saggio sull'origine delle idee — attempting to ground Catholic philosophy in response to Kant.
In 1848–1849 he served as a papal diplomatic envoy and presented reform proposals (the Cinque piaghe della Santa Chiesa) that were later condemned. He accepted this condemnation with peace and spent his final years at Stresa on Lake Maggiore.
He died July 1, 1855. Propositions from his philosophical works were placed on the Index in 1887–1888 (posthumously); this censure was lifted in 2001. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on November 18, 2007.
