Blessed Anne of Bartholomew
Blessed Anne of Saint Bartholomew (born October 1, 1549 AD in Almendral, Ávila, Spain; died June 7, 1626 AD in Antwerp, Belgium) was a Spanish Discalced Carmelite sister — the first lay sister of the reformed Carmelite Order, the personal secretary and nurse of Saint Teresa of Ávila (in whose arms she died), and a foundress of Carmelite monasteries in France and the Spanish Netherlands. She was beatified by Pope Benedict XV on May 6, 1917. Her feast day is June 7.

Biography
Ana García was born October 1, 1549, in Almendral, a village in the province of Ávila, Castile. She entered the Discalced Carmelite reform of Saint Teresa of Ávila as the first lay sister (co-adjutrix sister), taking the religious name Anne of Saint Bartholomew.
Despite initially being unable to read or write, she became Saint Teresa's personal secretary and constant companion. She nursed Teresa in her final illness and held her in her arms as she died on October 4, 1582, at Alba de Tormes.
After Teresa's death she continued in the Carmelite communities of Spain, then was selected as one of the Spanish Carmelites brought to Paris in 1604 to establish the French Carmelite reform. She founded monasteries in Pontoise, Tours, Mons, and Antwerp, becoming the foundress of Carmelite life in France and the Spanish Netherlands.
She spent the last 18 years of her life at the Carmelite monastery in Antwerp, where she died June 7, 1626.
She was beatified by Pope Benedict XV on May 6, 1917.
