Blessed Angela de San José (Lloret Martí) (born June 15, 1879 AD in Alicante, Spain; died August 2, 1936 AD in Alicante, Spain) was a Spanish Franciscan Tertiary Regular nun who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War as part of the group of martyrs known as the Martyrs of Barbastro and related groups. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on March 11, 2001. Her feast day is August 2.

Biography

Angela Lloret Martí was born June 15, 1879, in Alicante on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. She entered religious life as a Franciscan Tertiary Regular, taking the religious name Angela de San José.

When the Spanish Civil War began in July 1936, intense anticlerical violence broke out in Republican-controlled regions of Spain. Thousands of clergy and religious were killed in the "red terror" of summer 1936. Angela was arrested and martyred at Alicante on August 2, 1936.

She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on March 11, 2001, as part of a large group of Spanish Civil War martyrs.
