Blessed Andrew of Phu Yen
Blessed Andrew of Phú Yên (born c. 1625 AD in Phú Yên Province, Vietnam; died July 26, 1644 AD in Phú Yên Province, Vietnam) was a Vietnamese Catholic catechist and the first Vietnamese martyr. He was a young man who served as a catechist in the Jesuit mission in Vietnam and was killed by order of the local lord for his faith. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on March 5, 2000. His feast day is July 26.

Biography
Andrew of Phú Yên was born c. 1625 in Phú Yên Province in central Vietnam. He was converted to Christianity by the Jesuit mission — which had been active in Vietnam since 1615 and whose most famous missionary, Father Alexandre de Rhodes, arrived in 1624 — and became a catechist serving the mission.
The local lord Nguyễn Phúc Lan prohibited Christianity and ordered the arrest of Christians. Andrew was arrested for his faith and for sheltering a Jesuit missionary. He was approximately 19 years old.
On July 26, 1644, he was struck with a lance and then beheaded. He died with the name of Jesus on his lips. He is the first known Vietnamese Catholic martyr.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on March 5, 2000, in Rome.
