Biography
Andreas Iscak was a Croatian Franciscan friar who lived and died in Croatia in the 16th century — a period of enormous challenge for the Croatian Catholic Church, caught between Ottoman military advance and the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation.
The Croatian Franciscans were one of the chief institutions maintaining Catholic pastoral life in a country whose medieval ecclesiastical structures had been largely destroyed. Andreas Iscak served in this context and is venerated locally on February 22.
