Blessed Andrea Gallerani
Blessed Andrea Gallerani (born c. 1200 AD in Siena, Tuscany, Italy; died March 19, 1251 AD in Siena, Tuscany, Italy) was a Sienese nobleman who gave up his wealth and social position to serve the poor and founded a company of lay mercy (Compagnia della Misericordia) for the care of the sick and destitute of Siena. He was beatified (confirmation of ancient cult). His feast day is March 19.

Biography
Andrea Gallerani was born c. 1200 in Siena to a wealthy noble family. After a conversion experience, he renounced his wealth and social position to serve the poor and sick of Siena.
He founded the Compagnia della Misericordia di Siena — one of the earliest organized lay charitable confraternities in Italy — to provide systematic care for the destitute and sick. The company brought together laymen of various social backgrounds to serve those in need.
He died March 19, 1251, in Siena, having given away his fortune. He was immediately venerated and his cult has been maintained continuously in Siena since the 13th century.
