Blessed Amadeus of Clermont
Blessed Amadeus of Clermont (born c. 1110 AD at the Château de Clermont, Auvergne, France; died January 28, 1159 AD in Lausanne, Switzerland) was a French nobleman who became a Cistercian monk under Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and rose to serve as Bishop of Lausanne. He is known for his eight homilies on the Blessed Virgin Mary — among the most beautiful Marian sermons of the 12th century. He is also known as Blessed Amadeus of Lausanne. He was beatified by Pope Gregory XIII in 1573. His feast day is January 28.

Biography
Amadeus of Clermont was born c. 1110 at the Château de Clermont in Auvergne, France, to a noble family. As a young man he served briefly at the imperial court of Emperor Henry V before encountering Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and entering the Cistercian Order at Clairvaux around 1125–1130.
He became one of Bernard's most gifted disciples. In 1144 he was appointed Bishop of Lausanne, where he governed the diocese for 15 years.
During his episcopate he wrote his celebrated eight homilies on the Blessed Virgin Mary — the Homiliae de Maria — which are among the most beautiful Marian texts of the 12th century and an important contribution to medieval Marian theology.
He died January 28, 1159, at Lausanne. He was beatified by Pope Gregory XIII in 1573.
