Blessed Alfonso López
Blessed Alfonso López (born c. 1580 AD in Zamora, Spain; died June 1, 1617 AD in Nagasaki, Japan) was a Spanish Augustinian Recollect friar who served as a missionary in the Philippines and Japan, and was martyred in Nagasaki during the Tokugawa persecution of Christians. He is among the 205 Martyrs of Japan beatified on November 24, 2008. His feast day is September 10.

Biography
Alfonso López was born c. 1580 in Zamora, Spain. He entered the Augustinian Recollects and served as a missionary in the Philippines, the main Spanish base for East Asian missionary work.
He then entered Japan clandestinely to minister to the underground Catholic community during the Tokugawa persecution of Christians, knowing that discovery would mean death.
He was captured and burned alive on June 1, 1617, at Nagasaki. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on November 24, 2008, at Nagasaki, as one of the 205 Martyrs of Japan.
