Biography
Alberic of Gladbach was a Benedictine monk of the Abbey of Gladbach (now Mönchengladbach) in the Lower Rhineland, Germany. The abbey was founded c. 974 under Emperor Otto II and was one of the significant Benedictine communities of the Ottonian renaissance.
Alberic lived in the early community of this reformed Benedictine house, practicing the monastic life of prayer, labor, and community according to the Rule of Saint Benedict. He died c. 1050 and is venerated locally in the Rhineland Catholic tradition on January 26.
