Biography
Alacrinus of Casamari was a Cistercian monk of the Abbey of Casamari in Lazio, one of the most important Cistercian monasteries in central Italy. The abbey had been a Benedictine foundation (1035) before being reformed as Cistercian in 1140; Alacrinus was part of the early generations of this reformed community.
He lived the austere Cistercian life of manual labor, liturgical prayer, and contemplative silence in the Ciociaria hills of Lazio. He died c. 1216 and is venerated locally on February 19. The Abbey of Casamari — still an active Cistercian community — preserves his memory within the tradition of its early holy monks.
