Establishment
The Archdiocese of Nassau was established on 5 June 1960 by Pope John XXIII as the Diocese of Nassau, serving the Catholic faithful throughout the Bahamas. It was elevated to the status of archdiocese on 22 June 1999.
History
The territory that comprises the archdiocese was originally part of the Diocese of Havana until 1941, when it became part of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Bahamas. The see has grown steadily since its founding, with the construction of its cathedral and expansion of parishes across the islands.
