Establishment
The Archdiocese of Corrientes was erected as a diocese on 3 November 1910 by Pope Pius X, carved from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of Paraná to serve the growing Catholic communities along the Paraná River in northeastern Argentina.
History
Early Years
The see was established to address pastoral needs in the vast rural areas of Corrientes Province, with its first bishop, Juan José Aníbal Silva, overseeing initial organization and the construction of the original cathedral.
Elevation to Archdiocese
On 7 April 1984 the diocese was raised to the rank of metropolitan archdiocese by Pope John Paul II, reflecting the expansion of Catholic life and the creation of new suffragan sees in the region.
Geography
The archdiocese covers the entire territory of Corrientes Province in northeastern Argentina, including the capital city of Corrientes and surrounding departments such as Capital, San Cosme, Itatí, and Empedrado.
Mother Church
The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in the city of Corrientes serves as the mother church. The present neoclassical structure was completed in the early twentieth century and houses the remains of several former bishops.

Andrés Stanovnik, OFM Cap., has served as Archbishop of Corrientes since 2007. A Capuchin friar, he previously served as Bishop of Reconquista and emphasizes evangelization and social outreach.
